In severe cases of gum disease gums recede and roots of teeth are exposed making them vulnerable and sensitive. Following treatment for gum disease, a gum graft may be required to cover these roots.

Main points:

– Gum disease is preventable with proper oral hygiene at home and regular dental cleanings.

– Receded gums make teeth look longer and the gum line uneven.

– Exposed roots are often extremely painful and sensitive.

To avoid gum disease, maintain good oral habits, eat a healthy diet, and see a dentist regularly.

“Before getting a gum graft, your dentist will evaluate your smile and attempt to treat your gum disease without surgery.”
