Who we are

OPTISMILE INC, trading as OptiSmile Advanced Dentistry and Implant Centre, Suite 303, The Point Mall, 76 Regent Road, Sea Point, Cape Town, 8005. We handle your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect

Your identity and contact details, such as your name, date of birth, ID number, address, phone number, email and next of kin.
Your medical aid details, if you use medical aid.
Your medical and dental history and clinical records.
Messages you send us by WhatsApp, email, phone or our website.
Information about how you use our website, collected through cookies.

Why we use it

To provide and plan your dental care safely.
To manage appointments, communication and billing.
To meet our legal and professional obligations.
To improve our website and understand how patients find us.
To tell you about our services, where POPIA allows. You can opt out at any time.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies and analytics tools to understand how it is used and to measure our advertising. These do not receive your health information. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

When you contact us

Some messages may first be answered by an automated assistant. Our team handles all bookings and clinical matters. When you contact us from our website, we may note which page or advert brought you to us.

Who we share it with

We never sell your personal information. We share it only with:
– our team, who are bound by confidentiality;
– service providers who help us run the practice and website, under confidentiality;
– other healthcare providers involved in your care;
– your medical aid, if you claim from it;
– anyone the law requires us to share it with.

Some service providers may store information outside South Africa. We only use providers that protect it to a standard similar to POPIA.

Security and how long we keep it

We take reasonable steps to keep your information secure. If it is ever accessed without permission, we will tell you and the Information Regulator.

We keep clinical records for as long as the law and the Health Professions Council of South Africa require, and other information only as long as we need it.

Children

For patients under 18, we need the consent of a parent or guardian.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information (where the law allows), object to how we use it, including for marketing, and withdraw consent. Contact our information officer to do so.
